About This Project
The idea for this project arose out of a study group in Santa Cruz, CA, comprised of students of Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophy.
The group is currently in its second reading (yes, it has been years). About a half dozen of us meet twice a month in a living room to read aloud from the book, with pauses interjected freely to discuss the current passage. (Between the previous reading and the current, we “took a break” by reading Rudolf Steiner’s introductions to Goethe’s Scientific works, publishing variously as “Goethe the Scientist,” “Nature’s Open Secret,” and “Goethean Science” – the last mentioned being available on line at the Rudolf Steiner Archive.
The group is various – all with background in anthroposophy, some as teachers, others business people, doctors, and so on, and with varying degrees of background in contemporary science.
In reading the work, we found many references to science, history, and ideas had either assumed a more complete academic background in certain aspects of science or other topics; or were simply intriguing and left us wanting more background material.
The idea of this site is to eventually accumulate more and more in the manner of links (or notes) providing the reader with direct access to additional relevant information – ranging from source works, Wikipedia articles, to whatever seems helpful.
The group as of this writing is in the middle of Chapter V of the current third edition, as edited by Nick Thomas. Additions and notes may be somewhat sporadically updated here. The version presented here online is the public domain version, the first edition. See publishing history for background on the different editions.
